Marriage, and 3 children, aged 16, 15 and 8 has provided some respite from his dread of playing in a slow paced encounter but it has not stopped him from winning the Isle of Man championships in 1999, 2002, 2003 and 2004. Andrew Winn - Back To Top
Andrew discovered croquet whilst working at the University of Surrey, curious about an unused lawn on campus. On moving to the North West he found he was living near the excellent club at Bowdon and has been a member there since 1996, drawing constant inspiration from the likes of Ian Lines and Colin Irwin. Progress was desperately slow, remaining at a handicap of 7 for over 2 years. After a season dedicated to completing his first triple peel in practise, the blood sweat and tears transformed Andrew from an inconsistent, unfocused B-class hacker into the semi-focused A-class hacker he is today. Now knocking on the door of the top 100, he is enjoying the view from such a surprisingly lofty perch but expecting vertigo to set in at any moment. Best tournament wins to date are the UK’s Northwest Federation Millennium trophy and South Africa’s Johannesburg A Class, both in 2008. Andrew works at the University of Manchester, stress-testing aerospace engine components. When not on a croquet court he enjoys cooking, wine, real ale, travel, wildlife photography and plants with big leaves. He lives in Stretford, Manchester, with long-suffering partner Mel.
